When first starting out on an instrument, one of the best purchases you can make is a beginner’s package. While some packages seem determined to offer quantity over quality, the Lohanu Bundle Kit is a well-thought out ukulele kit that gives you everything you need to hit the ground running. Today we take a closer look.

Body & Neck

One great thing about the Lohanu Bundle is that you aren’t limited to one instrument style. The same package is offered whether you choose a soprano, concert or tenor ukulele. For our review we will be looking at the tenor setup, but the features are similar across all of the options.

The most important part of the kit is having a great beginner’s ukulele, and Lohanu succeed in delivering one. While it’s clearly still an entry-level model, the tenor uke that Lohanu includes has a well-constructed body that uses laminate sapele and mahogany for the top, sides, and neck.

It’s a simply yet attractive model, especially with cream body and neck binding, and alternate purfling around the top. Topping it off, the 18-fret rosewood fretboard is a nice touch to help bring out the best tone possible.

Hardware

The ukulele itself comes installed with two chrome-plated strap buttons (many other models fail to include these), along with a set of chrome die-cast tuning machines. Simple enough, as a good ukulele should be.

But this bundle doesn’t stop there. We think it’s fair to consider all of the items that come with it as ‘hardware’ in its own right. Pretty much every accessory that would be used to play is there! Included in the kit is a clip-on chromatic tuner, a paracord hanger, a strap, a small assortment of picks, extra strings, and even a gig bag.

And, while it’s not ‘hardware’ per se, Lohanu also offers free video lessons along with an unconditional lifetime warranty on everything that comes with the package – accessories included. For the budget price, that’s pretty unheard of, and it makes this Lohanu Bundle certainly worthy of consideration.

Sound

Many times, an instrument in this price range sounds… well, like an instrument in this price range (if you get our drift). Good tone usually takes a backseat to cost-effective materials and construction.

That’s not the case whatsoever with the Lohanu uke. Each string projects well with no dead spots along the neck when playing single notes, and chords sound nice and full.

It’s important to note that the body design has an arched back for increased sustain and a more defined tone – a feature that is more likely to be seen on instruments in the upper range of price and quality. Therefore, the projection is very commendable, although this is based on the tenor uke – the smaller concert and soprano sizes will lack a little volume in comparison.

Conclusion

There’s no doubt in our minds that the Lohanu Bundle Kit gives any budding ukulele player a great instrument, plus an impressive array of convenient extras. You really can’t ask for much more, especially when you consider what you get for what you may pay.
