KRK's Rokit series is by far among the most popular ones on the market. Today we are going to a look at a slightly different Rokit set. KRK's Rokit 10-3 is solid ticket into three-way monitoring, which easily makes them one of the most attractive monitors to get under $1000.

Design

Looking at them from a distance, many wouldn't be able to discern a set of Rokit 10-3 from any other Rokit series. However, take a few steps closer and it becomes immediately clear. Even though KRK has used what appears to be the same cabinet design, Rokit 10-3 features three transducers on the baffle. We still have those beveled edges, slotted front firing ports and bright yellow cones. With more hardware comes more real estate.

Rokit 10-3 are not really compact, making them a great choice for larger studios, but not so great for smaller ones. In terms of build quality, you can expect the same as usual. Everything feels solid and inspires confidence. Rokit 10-3 comes in all black, but unlike other Rokit models, this one features two of those bright yellow driver cones. Even so, chances are it will fit into any interior design.

Features

Let's kick things off by going over those transducers. At the very top, we have a 1″ soft dome tweeter sitting in a subtle waveguide. Below it, we have a 4″ mid range driver that features Aramid glass construction. Lastly, there is the massive 10″ low frequency driver, also made of Aramid glass composite material. When it comes to amplification, KRK went with a tri-amp setup, assigning each transducer with its own dedicated amp. Combined, all three amps produce 140 Watts of power, reaching max peak SPL of 113dB at 1 meter.

In terms of back panel features, there are LF and HF trim controls, as well as a decent I/O cluster. KRK chose one XLR, one 1/4″ TRS and one RCA port. In all honesty, the only thing that's is missing is a standby mode. Other than that, KRK has created a very solid monitor.

Performance

Whenever we are dealing with a three-way setup, performance is the first thing that peaks our interest. KRK Rokit 10-3 delivers an extremely flat response over a wide frequency range. That 10″ woofer cone easily digs down to 31Hz, giving you a whole lot of bass. However, it's not loose bass. On the contrary, low end is fairly tight and articulated. Mid range comes across as defined but not too bright, while trebles are reasonably sharp.

Even though the tweeter only has to deal with a narrow frequency band, KRK opted to put a ceiling at around 20kHz, which worked out pretty well. One more thing worth mentioning is the sweet spot. You can be anywhere from 1 meter to 4 meters away from the speakers and still enjoy focused sound. This helps a lot considering the size and power of Rokit 10-3.

Conclusion

KRK's Rokit 10-3 might come across as an overkill for most home studios, however this set of monitors gives you access to three way configuration that is fairly easy to deal with. With a flat response and plenty of power, you're pretty much set to tackle any project you want.
