Never mind the insane graphics – the CNZ Audio Re-Pete Looper Pedal is an impressive boutique-level pedal at a surprisingly non-boutique level price. With the features that are packed into this thing, you’ll not only make yourself sound like a guitar orchestra, you’ll still be shaking your head in disbelief at the value. Let’s check it out.

Features

The Re-Pete comes packaged in an all-metal case that’s a little bigger than your typical stompbox, measuring up at 5” x 1.5” x 5”. It does take up a little more room, but you’ll soon see that it’s worth sacrificing the space on your board. As mentioned above, the graphics on the face are pretty crazy, with those red repeat-type symbols of various sizes and orientations splashed against a stark white background. Let’s just say this one catches your attention!

Many pedal-based loopers are pretty limited as far as the available total loop time and the number of overdubs you can make. There are three knobs, two mini-toggle switches, and two standard stompbox-style footswitches. Two of the knobs control the levels of the left and right stereo channels, and the third manages the speed of the loops, ranging from normal, 1.5x faster than normal, and 2x slower.

The left mini-toggle switch controls three different modes: Change (changes the L/R channel outputs), Forward (normal loop playback), and Reverse (for those Beatle-esque backwards sounding tracks). The right-side switch lets you go between Stop mode – which manages the recording of loops – or FX mode (which lets you control playback of the looper effect).

The two-foot switches control looper creation and playback as well, as long as the mini-toggles are set in the right mode. There’s no hiding the fact that it’s a lot to take in, and, if this is the pedal you end up with, you’ll need a good session to truly get to grips with everything.

Performance

If you’re planning on using your looper in a live setting, you won’t have to worry about durability with the Re-Pete. It’s built like a tank, and it can take any abuse you want to throw at it.

The sound quality of the loops is on par with loopers that can cost many times the price of admission. Even when you use the Speed control to take things up or down a notch, you’ll notice no degradation of the signal or any digital artifacts.

Also, true-bypass circuitry helps to keep your base tone transparent and unaffected. Add that to the recording time and dubbing capability, and you’ll be shocked that you paid so little to get so much.
