Gibson's rise to fame took time, hard work and some pretty ingenious engineering. The result is the fact that just about everyone in the business knows about Les Paul, and more importantly, wants to own one. With that said, what used to work 50 years ago doesn't necessarily work all that well today. Gibson had to constantly adapt their design and keep up with the current demands of the market. One fruit of that effort is the 2015 Gibson Les Paul Studio. This thing is by far one of the best expensive electric guitars you can grab right now.
While times do change, one thing will probably stay the same and that is the Les Paul body shape. Gibson did upgrade a few things, such as doing a much more modern type of routing, but they did very little to disturb the original LP body style. Tonewood of choice for this model is mahogany with a figured maple top. The neck is also made of mahogany and features that classic slim taper profile. With a rosewood fretboard and a classic burst finish, this guitar looks pretty vintage to an unsuspecting observer.
When it comes to hardware, you can expect the same old solutions. We are talking a Tune-o-Matic bridge with a stop bar. Nothing else will work as well on guitars of this type as this configuration. Once we move on to the headstock, we see a set of premium Gibson tuning machines. They are also pretty vintage in design but work pretty well at keeping the guitar in tune. Overall, the hardware is bulletproof and requires little to no adjustment even after prolonged playing sessions.
One of the things that always gave a genuine Les Paul its main quality was the set of pickups it featured. This time around, we get a set of '57 classic and classic plus humbuckers. These are wired to a standard set of controls, which includes individual volume and tone knobs for each pickup. It's worth mentioning that '57 classic humbuckers feature Alnico 2 magnets that are just amazing in their own right. This is as real as it gets when it comes to modern LPs.
If you are looking for that classic Les Paul tone, you are in the right place. 2015 Gibson Les Paul Studio brings the true vintage experience thanks to it's carefully designed and implemented humbuckers. This guitar is built for classic rock, blues and similar genres of music. The range of color you have access to is impressive. With great balance and saturation across the range, every single subtle detail you incorporate into your music will stand out. This is a true Gibson Les Paul, top to bottom.
Gibson's Studio line of Les Pauls has been one of the best and most interesting the past few years. They've experimented with some stuff, added new things but all in an effort to keep the original idea going in a very turbulent time. If you are looking for an authentic Les Paul experience, this is the guitar you need to get.
