If there's one thing we love, it's beautiful guitars. But if there's one thing we love even more than beautiful guitars, it's beautiful guitars that sound great. And lo and behold, that's exactly what Luna Trinity is!
This instrument belongs in the under $500 department and packs a sound worthy of the price tag. It also sports quality design and solid playability, as well as a full electronic section for plugged-in performances. We took the lovely Trinity out for a spin, read our brief summary below.
The guitar features a classic parlor body with rosewood back and sides and a solid spruce top. Rosewood is not a standard type of wood used for guitar bodies, but it works quite nicely here. In general, this instrument has a strong classical guitar vibe, and the bright and slightly thin, middles-driven tone of rosewood fits the bill perfectly to deliver the vintage feel.
Looking at the neck, we are facing a solid mahogany piece, which happens to be a frequent material on this type of guitars. Mahogany is strong, sturdy and full, which makes the neck less prone to damage and bending – something every travelling guitarist is bound to appreciate in an instrument.
Additionally, we are looking at a rosewood fingerboard with 18 frets, a scale length of 25.5 inches, and Celtic fret inlays.
As noted, this is an acoustic-electric guitar, meaning you can plug it into an acoustic amp or a PA system. For that purpose, the manufacturer has included a B-Band preamp system with an included acoustic pickup and an onboard tuner. The circuitry does a solid job in transposing the acoustic sound to plugged0in environment, and that's all we can ask for.
Further notable features include a rosewood bridge with brown pins with white dots, a 1-11⁄16 inch nut width, total weight of 4.3 pounds and a size of 39 x 14 x 3-2⁄3 inches. Note that a separate guitar case is available, but not included in the listed price.
In a nutshell, the tone here is heavy, massive and bright. The guitar reminisces the '20s classical guitars, but packs the sonic attack with a decent load of modern craftsmanship and sound values. So despite being on the bright and punch driven side, you can still feel a healthy dose of basses rounding up the audio mix.
Like any top-notch patrol guitar, this six-string compensates the lack of boom and resonance caused by a smaller body with exceptional clarity and a killer punch. If the sound of smaller guitars is your thing, you'll love this one.
When the line is drawn, it remains clear that while this is a gorgeous guitar, the sound quality is also worthy of your full attention. Don't feel guilty if the sexy looks have lured you to trinity, as you are looking at a very sonic punch. If you're after a vintage classical guitar vibe summed up in a small package within the “under $500” domain, this Luna has potential to satisfy your musical hunger. Neat stuff!
