Freshening up the concept of a volume/expression pedal, this Electro Harmonix device stands out with high-tech looks and high practicality. It features zero moving parts and is significantly different than many of its peers.

And not only can this fella operate as a volume and expression pedal, but you can also use it for pan control. We decided to take it out for a bit of a test run, our full findings are available in the review below.

The device utilizes instantaneous bypass switching, allowing zero audio interference or any sort of poor audio quality, which is a killer feature right from the get-go.

This is a mono pedal, which means you get one input and a single output. In our experience, that's perfectly fine for the absolute majority of musicians, but apart from all that basic stuff, the Electro Harmonix fella here actually offers some features we haven't seen on any other volume pedal out there.

Specifically, it boasts a Range dial that allows you to adjust the expression sweep range by increasing or decreasing it, along with a Bypass Setting dial, a Reverse feature activation button, and a calibration button.

Crafted right in the US of A, the product weighs in at 2.6 pounds and features a total size of 10.2 x 2.4 x 4.1 inches. There's no footswitches, gears or rack to break. The item is ultra rugged, and even comes with a 6-foot 1/4-inch TRS cable included in the price.

As far as controls go, the pedal offers plenty of calibration options that allow you to suit everything about this device to fit your needs to a tee. In its essence, the product is still a volume pedal, meaning that its primary purpose is controlling the volume of your instrument or the level of desired guitar effect you connect it to. Additionally, the item also has a nifty option of controlling the pan of your sonic output, which can create some crazy sounds during live shows.

Performance

The overall feel of the pedal is most certainly different and might take a bit of time getting used to, especially if you're accustomed to standard volume controls. We grasped the feel and vibe of the Electro Harmonix pretty fast and like the more loose sense it brings.

The pedal still grips firmly onto your foot, but you can move it around more conveniently and really place it anywhere you want. We like how you can adjust the pedals sensitivity to great detail, but what stood out the most is the way this fella truly feels like an extension of your own foot rather than a separate tool. But as noted, it does take some time getting used to for regular users of standard pedals, and is therefore not exactly for everyone.

When it comes to sound quality, we have zero complaints – loud, clear, and ready for action!

Value/Conclusion

In a nutshell, this is a refreshing item in our book! It is great to see the concept of a plain ole volume pedal freshened up a little bit, and we have certainly enjoyed the ride here. The price does belong to the higher registry, but is generally worth it.
