For a long while it was known that if you're shopping for metal axes, ESP is one of the brands you have to check out. Because of this ongoing reputation, a lot of people forgot that ESP is capable of delivering more conservative instruments as well. Case in point the ESP Artist Series LGCP4.
Not only is it one of the more capable guitars in the $500 price range, but it can hold its ground against more expensive models as well. This is a bass guitar designed to blend in just about any environment while providing one of the best tonal signatures in its price range. Today we are going to introduce you to the LGCP4 and show you exactly how good this thing is.
In many ways, the LGCP4 looks a lot like your standard Fender bass, and those similarities aren't just skin deep either. The shape ESP went with is a regular J-Bass type. They even left the same pickguard on there. Alder body only further decreases the distance between this ESP model and your average Fender bass. The neck is a maple design with a nice maple fretboard. It's a thinner version with a U profile and is overall pretty smooth. Interestingly, ESP decided not to put any inlays on the LGCP4.
When it comes to hardware, the situation is rather average. We have a vintage type bridge that comes with four fully adjustable saddles on one end, and a set of die-cast tuners on the other. All hardware comes in black color, which fits the overall theme of the bass pretty nicely considering you've chosen the black version. In sense of performance, this set of hardware is bulletproof under normal use.
The configuration of pickups ESP went with for this model can be considered the most neutral of them all. We are talking about a split single coil at the neck position and a precision single coil at the bridge. Both of these pickups are ESPs own design. Controls come in form of a single Master Volume knob and a Tone knob. In all honesty, a pretty standard setup.
What really puts the ESP Artist Series LGCP4 out there is the range of tone it offers. This is partially thanks to the quality of pickups and partially due to their configuration. You can push the LGCP4 in just about any direction. It is more than capable of giving you the precision and definition for more clinical work, while it also handles muddy setups as well. Overall, it's a general purpose axe with a lot of potential and a rather neutral nature.
Whether you're a fan of Fender's bass designs, this ESP is going to bring you a great performance at a more than reasonable price. ESP Artist Series LGCP4 is capable of swinging into any genre you can think of, and handles these environments pretty well. No matter if you are a beginner looking for a solid first bass, or an experienced player trying to get something with a lot of range, ESP Artist Series LGCP4 has you covered.
