Fender have smartly tapped into this desire by successfully recreating an axe that demonstrates an old guitar feel while wielding it in your hands. That’s the Heavy Relic Stratocaster, marking the 60th year since its original release.
This git is definitely not for everyone, if you feel like you wouldn’t be too fond of a guitar covered in artificial starches and markings, then you might want to stop reading here. However, if you’re one of many who wants a proper old instrument experience without hindering its tone quality, then this is an absolute must-have in your arsenal.
This distinctive masterpiece comes in a double cutaway body made of ash wood and a single single-ply pickguard. Its U-Neck is made of maple quartersawn, bolt-on jointed on a scale of 25.5 inches. The body and neck both come with a beautiful gloss nitrocellulose finish. The maple fingerboard is equipped with 21 narrow jumbo frets and black dot inlays on a 9.5 inch radius.
The axe is finished at the top by its classic headstock equipped with six vintage-style tuning machines.The Heavy Relic Strat does not deviate from the original style and design of its components.It mimics its 54’ release offering identical lively and responsive intonation.
The only (negligible) exception being the five-way instead of a three-way switch, tending to the tonal options Strat users are accustomed to, offering the best of both worlds.The bridge slot is designed using a vintage synchronized tremolo system, and the git’s pickups present a triple single-coil combination – modified by its individual Tone and single Master Volume control knobs.
The sound output of this piece of work is delivered by using the old-school, straightforward way, determinant purely on the pickup’s location.
