Ever since version 1, Pyramix has been evolving. Today, Pyramix 11 is one of the best DAWs on the market, especially if you're looking at the premium category. As we're about to see, it offers a lot.

Pyramix-11-Design

Design

User interface in Pyramix definitely takes some getting used to. For starters, it is fully customizable. As a matter of fact, you have to customize it every time you want to start a new project. You choose everything from the number of channels, number of tracks and a whole lot more. All of this happens through a setup wizard at start-up. That process alone is enough to let even the most conservative producers that Pyramix is no toy. On the contrary, it is one of the most capable tools you can have. However, aesthetics are not something Pyramix can brag about. Everything is utilitarian to a point where it hurts. Once you find yourself in a middle of a project, things can become confusing. A good example of this is the mixer section. When you load all channels, busses and aux inputs, the sight can be overwhelming.

Pyramix-11-Features

Features

here's the deal about Pyramix. It is easily more complex than some of the most popular paid DAWs on the market. Version 11 covers every application you can think of with plenty of tools, some of which are incredibly developed. That goes for recording, editing, mixing and mastering. We have already mentioned its elaborate mixer. It is elaborate because Pyramix allows you to record 384 tracks at the same time. Then we have 3D Workflows suite, which is first of its kind. In short, it allows you to natively mix your music for just about any speaker layout out there. When you add complex automation suite, professional metering and a whole bunch of other stuff, it becomes very apparent that Pyramix is a true powerhouse of a DAW. Even if you have many years of experience with professional DAWs, this one will most likely come as a surprise.

Performance

Despite it being massive, Pyramix runs pretty smooth. With so much stuff available, the learning curve for this DAW can be too steep for some. Creators of Pyramix, a Swiss company called Merging, didn't really optimize anything for beginners. Their aim was to build a tool for professionals. As such, mastering Pyramix will take a lot of time and effort. When put to use, this software has to power to transform the way you see music production. Whether you are looking for superficial mastering, or pin point accurate mixing, Pyramix will deliver. Even when put under heavy load with dozens of recording channels active, it trucks on smoothly. One fact that should tell you all you need to know about Pyramix is that it's used in a number of professional studios around the world.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, Pyramix 11 can be a very powerful tool in the hands of skilled producers. It comes with unique and extensive features, which can be as detailed as you need them to. The only issue is that Pyramix comes with a very steep learning curve.
