Wampler pedals, or known just as Wampler, have been aiding guitarists of various backgrounds in improving their sound since their foundation. They’ve started humbly and worked their way up to being one of the top quality pedal manufacturer. Their products’ quality and integrity has never faded over time, they’ve been pleasing their customer base with high-end pedals every time they put them on the market.
With distinctive and flavored design, Wampler pedals truly stand out. The manufacturer has collaborated with one of the finest UK-based guitarists, Tom Quayle, to produce the overdrive pedal officially known as the Wampler Tom Quayle Dual Fusion Overdrive.
This hand-made masterpiece is something you don’t see very often, two pedals in one chassis, both providing immaculate and unique sound completely independent of each other, with a separate set of controls. A number of people might think this is complicated for use, but it really is not, the interface is very straight-forward and simple to use despite the seemingly overwhelming number of controls, it’s so neatly arranged you will have no problems whatsoever in mastering it, if that’s even a concern at all.
First and foremost, the foot-switches enable a choice between Modern and Vintage, which are loosely based on the Paisley Drive and Euphoria model pedals. Both the Modern, and Vintage mode come with a separate set of controls. The modern side includes Volume, Tone and Gain/Distortion knobs, with a switch to give your sound a Throaty feel (up) or more Natural (down). The vintage side on the other hand, offers, Volume, Tone and Drive, with a switch for Fatter (down) or Smoother (up) sound.
What makes this masterpiece truly unique is the independent switch situated right at the top, labelled as “separate”. This switch enables you to select routing, from 1 to 2, or the other way around, complemented with individual inputs and outputs.
The Vintage and Modern functions on this outstanding pedal, for further clarification, can be also regarded as Lighter and Darker options. Vintage provides a very light, energetic and responsive sound, a feature often found on pedals produced by Wampler. Modern, on the other hand outputs a darker and deeper, thick sound with a high amount of gain.
Experimentation with both modes combined with their respective switches can and will produce very interesting and satisfying results. It’s up to you whether you want to employ using a certain function, or a combination of both, the end product is fantastic either way.
This unique dual overdrive pedal is definitely one of a kind, you will fall in love with it upon using. It fits into a category of its own, well worth its price and will match any guitarists’ taste.
